A quick look at the very simple templates I've cut out for the patka and a longer, deeper one for the start of a dhoti pallu.
For both I've used the Ikea boxes their products come in. The cut one was shaped with a traditional scalpel. Worked fine but could be easier and cleaner for my tastes. There after I used a regular NT cutter, albeit a small one. However it did a better job of slicing through the corrugated interior of the card. I believe I'll use this tool in the future.
Working on a cutting mat with a grid of 1cm measures on it, marking off the various points where I wanted them was simplicity it's self and fast. The only real trick was starting from the centre and working outwards from there on either side. When it came to employing the template it was a breeze!
Can't wait to try this out for outlining areas that have to be painted!
Meanwhile I've been collecting all the polystyrene I can lay my hands on for replicating period blocks and stamps.
