I worked this rough up over Christmas in a more typical 14thC style for the muslin and oyster duppion piece.
In scale it covers all the period features; circular motif between the peacock images, the second pearl border and rules above them and space for the red edge at the bottom of the border.
This also affords me several options to be flexible in overall interpretation. ie. With an indigo background wash to the peacocks. Linear with areas of colour and background wash forming another colour where it overlaps. Positive shapes as represented here, probably in crimson with touches of gilt foil rather than stark black. (Although this does compromise the red border at the bottom. A white pattern won't show-up effectively on the oyster.)
The next few weeks as I move into experimental samplers working up ideas and experimenting will be interesting.
Am not entirely convinced by the overall design. I need to refresh my memory and make a decision about the circular "flower" motif between the peacocks and will spend some time developing that area.
