Warp 325cm, weft 68cm; thread count 16/16; twist Z/Z
TAPI 01.161

Detail of an extent textile of a 15thC heirloom cloth from Gujarat and traded to Sulawesi, Eastern Indonesia. While not a border edging as I have in mind for the painted and stamped yellow dhoti, it does give one an idea of artistic interpretations featuring animal forms, in medieval Hindu textiles.

The elephants here form a band of pachyderms across the field of the cloth going from right to the left pallu. Each elephant measures 15cm x 12cm which is smaller than the sketch I'd worked up earlier last week. Meaning I will have to play around with sizing them to make sure of the details and scale before I cut the block.
