Been an interesting few days since my last post. Any ideas of future batik experiments or projects have been firmly shelved! My initial experiments with stamping and dying have proved very useful to me in helping me understand the vehicle that I'll be using and manipulating.
I have goofed in a way because I forgot that I'd used almost all the Whaley's Lawn for various dye ideas so instead of a white ground for the first stamping project I'll be using either the Dylon Tulip Red or the Sunflower Yellow dyed lengths. There is a two yard discrepancy between them with the red being the longest.
This means that the interpretation of the motif will change in the colours used and I'll swap the black and red areas against the yellow. Per period I will also use a black border on the pallu edges instead of the typical red one. Ideally I should use dark indigo rather than pure black since black is associated with Kali and generally only used during the period of Kali Puja in contemporary traditions. However I want to enlarge on my almost non-existent Horde wardrobe so black it is.
