After taking a good hard look at the initial plotting sketch, scanned and posted yesterday I spent the evening thinking about it and what would happen depending on how and where I omitted stitches. (Very much like planning a road trip.)
This morning I traced the design off. However this time I focus on ONLY the architectural lines and shapes that build my motif. When I work this way some of the more intricate details are left out and occur almost naturally. It also means that there is a good bit of mathematical calculation versus eyeball judgement and reduces the probability my work will show mistakes in the form of inked in outlines for the motif once completed.
Once I had a relatively clean image to work from, I traced it off on a scrap of the same silk that ends the patka. In this instance I used an orange waterproof marker on a single layer of silk. Included here for you to see. The reason I chose "orange" was further due to my desire for a less obtrusive inking should anything go amiss and the outlines be revealed in the final sampler.
In the last preparation step this scrap of silk with the design drawn on it gets tacked to another scrap, I plan to work this way on the patka, so a similar sampler in weights, thicknesses, scale and materials is important to work with.
